Time to honor Mom, Dad!

Dear Dad –

Today, in church the message was about Jochebed, Moses’ mother. One of the points Pastor touched on was the faith that Jochebed had to put Moses in a basket in the Nile River. The trust she put in the Lord that He would take care of her son. The second point that ties in with the first, is the courage Jochebed had. Jochebed did have a plan for her son, but the courage she had to see it through was impressive. Parents have a lot to learn from her. There are many times that I pray and say I am going to turn the problem/issue/concern regarding my child(ren) over to the Lord, but then I still try to control it. Until today, I had never made the comparison of Jochebed and Mom. I was thinking back to trials and tribulations Mom had to face and she faced them all with faith and courage. I never saw her doubting that God would get us through.

Another point Pastor gave today was about the generations that Jochebed impacted. If Jochebed would have followed the law declared at that time, Moses should have never lived. Instead, as I mentioned she put her faith in the Lord and look at the impact that decision made on generations. I am grateful to have a mother who has made an impact. Mom has made an impact on those around her (friends and previous coworkers) and of course her family. I would not be the person and mother that I am today if it wasn’t for the faith and courage of Mom. I know, Dad, there were times we had talks about Mom and maybe I even complained a little, but now as an adult and as mother I am glad she did what she did and still does. Mom is impacting generations. She definitely has impacted the way I parent, respond to situations, and overcome trials and tribulations. I know my children at their young ages have already been impacted by the perspective on life that Mom offers. There are times we stop and say to one another that response or reaction sounded like Mom/Grandma. My hope is that I carry on her impact to even more future generations. Dad, when the time comes that the two of you can have the best seats in town to look down and see the impact the two of you have had.
