On this Sunday I am reminded of the many afternoons you spent underneath a shade tree. My children love the memories they have from sitting with you under the shade trees as well. Whether it was the treats you shared, the stories, or the laughs; I believe they will never forget those times. I want to say thank you Dad for showing us how to slow down. How to slow down and enjoy God’s creatures, slow down and enjoy each other, slow down and enjoy an afternoon snooze, or just slow down and enjoy peace and quiet. You taught this to not only me, but my children as well. I am especially thankful after twelve weeks of slowing down. I have found that some people are uncomfortable with quiet. Some feel that is extremely awkward sitting with others in quiet. Some just cannot sit still. They must always be doing something. I believe when we do not take moments to sit in quiet and reflect, the Good Lord cannot bring new ideas to light. I heard quite a few years ago that it’s in the quiet that our Creator can allow us to be creative. I remember as a young child seeing you underneath the oak tree and I would sometimes wonder why you were so far back in the backyard. As a parent I now understand. Thank you Dad for teaching me to appreciate the quiet. Also teaching me the importance of connecting to the Lord in the space He created. We all need to be renewed and strengthened to face the challenges the world presents. As we head into the summer months I hope my family and I have many peaceful quiet times sitting under the shade trees. Maybe we will even eat some ice cream treats as we sit and allow our creative thoughts to flow. Thanks again Dad.
