Happy Birthday Dad

Another birthday celebration without the guest of honor. Tonight, I had a bowl of ice cream with fresh raspberries (from Mom’s garden) in honor of you Dad. As I sat at the table and enjoyed my ice cream, memories flooded my mind; however, all of them involved ice cream. 🙂 How on a hot summer day you loved to have a bowl of ice cream with fresh berries. How you always preferred to eat ice cream with someone else. There were times you really wanted someone to eat a bowl with you, so Mom wouldn’t holler about you eating ice cream yet again. How it was on a rare occasion that you turned ice cream down. I will never forget your face when someone got the vanilla ice cream out of the freezer when you were still finishing up your meal. How you would nod your head, and be just as excited as a child about having some ice cream. Thanks for passing on your love of ice cream to me. 🙂 Tonight I also took a walk around my yard as I reflected on many walks with you around your yard or walks down the trail. I looked around my house, the yard, my little garden, the deck, the garage, and even the little shed. How so many things even outside at my house could stir up memories of you, Dad. Thank you for always helping me out at my house and the boys’ houses too. You were always willing to lend a hand (unless you had fishing plans with Chuck). We definitely were lucky to have you Dad. I know there are a lot of things around my house that would have taken a lot longer to get done if it wasn’t for you. Now I am glad that I can look around and have those memories. Thank you really isn’t enough for being an involved dad. You definitely taught us how to love through acts of service. Please keep watching over us Dad. We love you and miss you. Happy Birthday! I hope you had the biggest ice cream sundae in heaven, Dad.
