Sweetness…

Who is making you sweeter? Yes, I said sweeter. I have blogged before about your circle of influence and how you become like the five people you hang around the most. You will talk like them, dress like them, eat like them, and make similar incomes. We, of course, have also all heard the saying, “iron sharpens iron”. So again who are you surrounding yourself with to sharpen a skill or an area of your life. Do you allow those people into your life? Or do you just stay envious of them?

Both of the above topics I have contemplated, and even made decisions in hopes to sharpen myself. However, the other day I read a devotion regarding blueberries. The author was talking about how her blueberry plants had produced the best blueberries after several years. They were full of sweet flavor and they were medium, large, and extra large berries. The best in appearance and best in taste, so far. She then went on to explain they had planted three different varieties of blueberry plants to get this end result. The blueberry plants were not all the same, but yet three different kinds. The three different kinds produced the best sweet tasting blueberry. The author then asked who do you surround yourself with? Who do you invest time in that results in you being the best version of yourself? Are you spending quality time with your Lord and Saviour? Are you spending time with those who lift you up? Those who challenge and sharpen you? What are you reading? What or who are you listening to? Are you doing activities and investing time in things that make you sweeter? What is the result you want? I want to be around those who make me the best version. The best version of sweetness, appearance, and aroma. Maybe some of us need to evaluate whether we need to prune a blueberry variety or even complete removal of a variety. How sweet can you be? Can your sweetness make a ripple effect on this generation and others?

  1. Loved the words about sweetness. Being in Machias, Maine (the blueberry capital of the world!) for 18 months I learned all about their blueberries, the wild kind that are low to the ground. Humility is defined as “making yourself low” in the presence of others rather than reigning supreme over them. Those who are humble are sweet to be around! Pastor Adam
