The Eagle and the Crow

A few years ago I read the Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. It was one of those books that you know that you read it at just right time in your life. Since then my husband and I have both read many of his books. I encourage you to check Jon Gordon’s books out if you haven’t already. Since I started reading his books I started to follow him on social media. I love what he posted a couple days ago. It is called the lesson of the Eagle and the Crow. The author is unknown.

The only bird that dares to peck an eagle is the crow. The crow sits on the eagle’s back and bites his neck. The eagle does not respond, nor fight with the crow; it does not spend time or energy on the crow. Instead he just opens his wings and begins to rise higher in the heavens. The higher the flight, the harder it is for the crow to breathe and eventually the crow falls off due to a lack of oxygen.

Jon Gordon goes on to say, “learn from the eagle and don’t fight the crows, just keep ascending. They might be along for the ride but they’ll soon fall off. Do not allow yourself to succumb to the distractions. Keep your focus on the things above and continue rising”.

I ask you today, who is the crow or crows in your life? Who is holding you down because you keep trying to fight them off? Or maybe you are allowing them to distract you from you completing your goal? Maybe you are allowing the crow to speak discouraging words that you in turn believe. Please stop wasting your time and energy on the crow. Instead, open those wings and believe in your purpose. Believe that you capable of what you put you mind to.

When I read this post I immediately thought of my son and the fun of middle school and high school sports. My son is experiencing what the crows can do when we acknowledge the pecking and biting. When he listens to those teammates who think they are God’s gift to the sport and better than any other player out there. Instead of just pushing himself and competing with himself, my son decides to give time and energy to the crows. Whether we are in middle school, in our 40’s, or even older we often allow the crows to hold us down. It is time to keep flying high, so high that the crows fall off our backs. It is time to focus on the things above and keep rising. It is time to not compare, but instead only compete against ourselves. It is time to work like it depends on us and pray like it depends on God. It is time to soar like the eagles.
